Lena Louzon was born in French Canada and later came with her familiy to the United States. French was her first language though she spoke vernacular English just as well. She married Charlie Louzon in July 1911 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in River Rouge, Wayne, Michigan. They were the parents of eleven children, nine of whom lived to adulthood. Their children were:

James Charles born 1912
Josephine Selina born 1914
Dorothy Josephine born 1915
Jeremiah Edward born 1918
Margaret Laura born 1919
Viola Louise born 1921
Robert Raymond born 1923
June Roseanna born 1926
Lawrence Richard born 1928
Edward Arthur born 1930
Shirley Jean born 1933

Lena was a homemaker. Despite deeply strained finances she did, indeed, make a home; not only for her husband and children but also for some of her grandchildren, whom they raised.

She was not prone to panic. In their later years Charlie and Lena spent summers in Algonac, Michigan right on the edge of Lake St. Clair. Water critters were a common sight. One day, while they walked in the backyard, Lena's 5-year old granddaughter saw a big turtle near the water's edge and began to run toward it. Lena called to her, "Cherie, come here. I want to show you something." The little girl turned and ran to her mémé who picked up a hefty broken branch from the ground and said, "Watch." She nudged at the turtle, who whipped around, snapped at the end of the branch and held on. "Wait for me next time, Cherie" was all she said. That little girl, who grew up with all her fingers and toes intact, remembers.
