Ruby E. Smith, age 88, of Derby, formerly of Wichita, retired from NCR, passed from this life, Friday, March 29, 2013. Visitation Monday 1-8 PM with family receiving friends 5-7 PM, Smith Mortuary, 1415 N Rock Rd., Derby; service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, First Christian Church, Haysville, with burial following at Elk Falls Cemetery, Elk Falls, KS at 3:30 p.m. At the age of 2, Ruby and her family came to Kansas traveling by train from Lumberport, WV and settled in Elk Falls. Ruby enjoyed being a homemaker. After raising her children she worked at NCR until retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dovenor and Ludicie Fortney; sister, Pauline McClendon; brother, Paul Fortney; and grandson, Justin Hammons. Survived by daughter, Marcia Hammons, Broken Arrow, OK; son Paul J. (Peggy) Smith, Haysville; and daughter, Sue (Gary) Benjamin, Derby; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorial established with First Christian Church, 7465 S. Meridian, Haysville, KS 67060.
