Yvonne was the sixth of the nine children of Tiburce and Alma Généreux, and the first to be born in the U.S. Besides working at her father's store (like the rest of her family), she worked as a manager at the Touhey Rope Manufacturing Company in Fall River. She and her husband retired to a beachfront home in Somerset, where her husband operated the automatic controls for the Borden Flats Lighthouse.
