Mr. Babich was born November 8, 1916 in Taylorville, the son of John and Helen M. Carvish Babich. He married Julia "Judy" Bates on October 16, 1948 and she preceded him in death on February 13, 1980. Mr. Babich was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, veteran of World War II, VFW Post 4495, American Legion Post #73, Knights of Columbusd, Eagles Lodge and Retiree's Chapter of Local #173, Spriongfield. He was a pipefitter with the Local #137, Springfield.
Surviving are longtime friend and companion, Jackie Nicoll, Taylorville; two sons, Bill Babich and wife Evelyn of Taylorville, John J. Babich of Springfield; three daughters, Mrs. Jonathan (Mickey) Newlin of Taylorville, Mrs. Rick (Bette) Prince of Mahomet and Mrs. Steve (Patricia) Smith of Villa Grove; seven granchildren; one great- granchild; four brothers; John and Frank "Babe" Babich both of Taylorville, Joe Babich of San Francisco, California and James Babich of St. Louis, Missouri; four sissters, Mary Frances Gleason, Visalia, California, Emily Babich, Mrs. Robert (Jerry) Jones and Sister Anita Babich all of St. Louis, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother Edward.
Visitation was held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Shafer Funeral Home. The funeral was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Wednesday with Father John O'Connell officiated, burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites.
