Cash, Dennis Lynn, September 18, 1948-November 6, 2009 of Lenoir City, defeated liver cancer after a short but valiant fight at home with his family and friends at his side. Dennis was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. Dennis was born and raised in the Ritta community and was a member of the Gibbs High School Class of 1966. He was a former TSSAA official for football, basketball and baseball. He also officiated for the City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation Department and was a member of AABC and ASA officiating associations. Dennis umpired many city, state, regional and world series AABC baseball games. One of his greatest achievements as an official was to be selected as one of an elite group to umpire the Sandy Koufax World Series, which he umpired many times. He was a 40+ year employee of the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation, currently working as a supervisor of Materials and Tests Lab, where he served on numerous committees relating to asphalt and concrete design. For many years he worked concessions for the University of Tennessee at Neyland Stadium and Thompson Boling Arena, the Knoxville Smokies and the Tennessee Smokies. He also served as pit crew member for Go-Carts #13 and #19 at Ashway and Dumplin Valley. Dennis loved the New York Yankees and lived long enough to see them win the World Series one more time. Dennis is survived by his best friend, loyal confidant and love of his life, his wife of 29 years Anita McGill Cash. He deeply loved his children and was most proud of them, daughter, Tara Renee Cash, Washington D.C. and son Tyler Arthur Edmonds Cash, United States Army. He is also survived by father in law Ott (Arthur) McGill; sisters in law and husbands Cissy (Donna) and Larry Barber and Jeannie and Gerald Perry; special nephews Nick Perry, Eddie Edmonds and Greg Edmonds; special niece and family Stefanie, Codi and Anna Rae (Uncle Denny's brown eyed devil) Reeves; other nephews, nieces and cousins; best friend and family William, Jill and Blake Smith; his loyal dog Bee and many friends too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by parents, Robbie and Ethel Cash; brothers and sisters Opal, Raymond, Albert and Pat; and mother in law Nancy McGill. To our family and friends we thank you for all you have done for Dennis and us. We love you all dearly. We would like to thank Dr. Dean Mire, Jean Wilson and staff of E TN Primary Care; Dr. Tracy Dobbs, James Wolfenbarger and staff of TN Cancer Specialists; Dr. Steven Silver, Jamie Sharpe and staff of Knoxville Gastroenterology Consultants; Ben Shaver and staff of Amedysis Hospice. Kim Livesay-you are a God-send. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the chapel of Bridges Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Perry officiating. The interment will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery. Active Pallbearers: Nick Perry, Codi Reeves, William Smith, Herthel (Buggy) Hale, Billy Goins and Lloyd (Shane-O- Mac) Clevenger. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Borden, Brian Gibson, Harry Carr, Barry Cochran and Materials and Tests employees. If you so desire, donations may be made to the Meridian Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 6513 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN. 37920. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Monday at Bridges Funeral Home 5430 Rutledge Pike 865-523-4999. www.bridgesfuneralhome.com
