Paul Brawley met with a tragic death on August 8, 1917. Paul, Edna and Mack were in a wagon on Elm Grove Road when the horses began to rare up. Edna was expecting their second child. She held on to two year old Mack as the horses threatened. Paul jumped off the wagon and grabbed hold of the reins in order to protect his family. The horses bolted forward and drove the wagon tongue through his stomach. He was buried at Big A Cemetery. Edna later married Albert Willis. She died in April of 1982 and was buried alongside Paul at Big A Cemetery at Rowlett, Texas.
