Anna came to the US with her parents and located to Erie in 1864. She was educated in the Erie public schools and St. Patrick's Parochial School. In 1878 she and her mother started a laundry business. After two years she purchased her mother's interest and ran the Troy Laundry on State Street in Erie.
She married William J. Hefferan on 18 Nov 1879 and had eight children with him. Only two lived to adulthood. After William's death in 1890 she married Richard Henry Donovan on 8 Jan 1895. He was a US Marine First Sergeant on the USS Michigan. They had one son together.
