Blaine Eugene Carpenter, age 79, of Albany and Lillian, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly on 29 March, 2013.

Blaine was born in Athens, Ohio on 27 April 1933. He graduated from Athens High School in 1952. He served as a Naval Corpsman at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia from Oct 1952 to September 1956.

Blaine was married to the love of his life, Dixie Johnson on September 5, 1954; they were married 58½ glorious years.

Blaine worked as a Medical Photographer for Grant Hospital. Additionally, he worked for WBNS television as a film technician. He continued his media work as News Photographer for WJW News. Finally, he worked as a Sound Engineer in the Sound and Cinema Department for Ohio State University for 17 years. He enjoyed his extensive volunteer work at the Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum and the Athens Fish and Game Club.

He was an avid photographer, fisherman, and dedicated Ohio State Buckeye fan.

He was a former member of the East Livingston Baptist Church in Reynoldsburg Ohio and was presently a member of First Baptist Church of Lillian in Lillian, Alabama. Most of all, he was a wonderful husband, dedicated father, compassionate grandpap and friend to countless people.

Blaine is survived by his wife Dixie Carpenter, his sister in law Marjorie Carpenter, children Debbie (George) Curtis, Tina (Rick) Gleadall, Thomas (Linda) Carpenter, Jeff (Kelle) Carpenter, Russ (Candace) Carpenter, Scott (Debbie) Carpenter, Mark Carpenter, David (Medea) Carpenter, Dan (Michelle) Carpenter, Amy Carpenter, Angie Carpenter, 30 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.

Blaine is preceded in death by his father and mother Charles and Beulah Carpenter, brother Charles Carpenter, and sister Katherine Hoisington.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. Deacon John Pauley of Rolling Hills Baptist Church will be officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 6- 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens, Athens.
