Ferdinand Ludwig Wilhelm Albrecht was the son of Carl Augustus and Wilhelmine (Krantz) Albrecht. He came to the United States with his father, two brothers and a sister and settled in Kingsbury County, South Dakota around 1884.

Ferdinand and Augusta met for the first time when she took a train from New York to De Smet. At first she didn't like South Dakota's windy barren land and wanted to go back to New York but Ferdinand convinced her to stay and they were married on April 10, 1894 in the house he had built for her.

Their family increased and the house and land expanded as the years went by.

They were married sixty-two years when Augusta died in 1956 with Ferdinand joining her three years later.

They had eight children: Emil, Carl, Else, Heinrich, Theodor, Frieda, Ferdinand and Wilhelmina
