INVESTIGATE DEATH FOLLOWING ACCIDENT

Roy McDaniel, 51, Dies At Hospital; Auto, Truck Collide on Neilan Blvd.

Roy McDaniel, 51, 750 Haldimand Ave., was dead on arrival at Mercy Hospital at 1:45 a.m. Saturday about 10 minutes after the auto he was driving crashed head-on with a truck on Neilan Blvd., 608 feet north of Knightsbridge Drive.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of Mr. McDaniel's death, according to the office of Dr. Garrett J. Boone, Butler County coroner.
Patrolman Wayne Morey, who investigated the accident, said Mr. McDaniel was driving northward passing two other northbound cars when his vehicle swerved over the center boulevard line into the southbound traffic lane. Witnesses said it appeared Mr. McDaniel had lost control of his car.
Richard J. Schnorbus, 18, 79 Damon Road, Cincinnati, was driving a 1967 model truck wouthward at the time. He said he applied brakes and tried to swerve to the left when he saw the auto coming toward him but was unable to avoid the accident. The vehicles crashed head-on in the southbound lane.
The auto, a 1966 model, was demolished and the front of the truck was heavily damaged, Patrolman Morey said.
The fire department emergency squad took Mr. McDaniel to Mercy Hospital. Patrolman Tom Knox took Schnorbus to the same hospital for treatment of head and face lacerations.
The youth was dismissed after treatment.

Funeral Services Set Tuesday For Roy McDaniel, Car Victim

Funeral services for Roy McDaniel, 51, 750 Haldimand Ave., who died Saturday at 1:45 a.m. in an accident on Neilan Blvd., will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Klaus-Weigel Funeral Home, Elvin Ave. and N.F. St., with the Rev. R.H. Van Nortwick of the Lindenwald Baptist Church officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral lhome from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday. Washington Lodge 17, F and AM, sesrvices will be at 7 p.m. Monday.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Mr. McDaniel was dead on arrival at Mercy Hospital from multiple injuries received when his automobile collided with a truck on Neilan Blve., 608 feet north of Knightsbridge Drive.
Dr. Garret J. Boone, Butler County coroner, ruled the death was caused by the traffic accident. At first it was believed the victim may have suffered a heart attack prior to the accident.
The death increased the Hamilton traffic death toll to four for 1968. During a similar period last year, eight persons had been killed in traffic accidents in the city.
The death was the 3th in traffic in Butler County, compared to 52 at this time last year.

Active pallbearers for Roy McDaniel, 51, 750 Haldimand Ave., who died Saturday at 1:45 a.m. in an accident on Neilan Blvd., are Harry McDaniel, Henry Smith, Wallace Johnson, Steve House, Ralph Geurin and Rick Lemmons.
Honorary pallbearers are John Welsh, Carl Ledbetter, James A. Lake, Franklin Amburgy, Clyde Hunley and James Amburgy.
Funeral services were to be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Klaus - Weigel Funeral Home, Elvin Ave. and N. F St. with the Rev. R.H. Van Nortwick, pastor of Lindenwald Baptist Church officiating.
Burial was to be in Rose Hill Memorial Park. Disabled American Veterans were to conduct graveside services.
