Enrolled 4 October 1861 at Georges Store (now Smithland, Tennessee), Lincoln County, Tennessee and joined the regiment 14 October 1861 at Camp Fisher, Virginia


Discharged 27 July 1862 by reason of minority (exempt under the Conscription Act). Re-enlisted 1 November 1862 at Georges Store by Colonel Peter Turney. Wounded at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 2-3 July 1863. Captured near Greencastle, Pennsylvania 5 July 1863. Sent to Fort Delaware POW Camp, Delaware where he was paroled and forwarded to City Point, Virginia for exchange 27 February 1865. Appears on a register at General Hospital, Howard's Grove, Richmond, Viginia on 5 March 1865.


His obituary:


Mr. G. L. Cashion died in the 5th District of Moore County April 20, 1902, of consumption, aged 57 years, 8 months, and 12 days. Funeral by Revs. Cashion and Woods. Burial at Waller graveyard, near Liberty.
