SALISBURY - Roy Kluttz, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., formerly of Salisbury, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, after a period of declining health at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 12, 1925, in Salisbury, Mr. Kluttz was the son of the late Roy and Hazel Glover Kluttz. He graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in Dayton, Ohio, and the School of Business at Catawba College, Salisbury.

A veteran, he served during World War II with the U.S. Navy. He was a plank owner of the USS Wisconsin and spent 18 months aboard ship in the Pacific Theater. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Area and received 10 Battle Stars and the Philippine Liberation with one Star. Roy was in Tokyo Bay when the Peace Treaty was signed.

Roy worked for Armour Food Company for 40 years, working in various management positions all over the Southeast. His last job was in Atlanta headquarters where he was in charge of sales for 65 military bases in the Southeastern U.S.

He was a member of Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge in Salisbury and American Legion. Roy was also an active member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

He served on the Board of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, was past President of Helping Hands of North Myrtle Beach and was active in Habitat for Humanity.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Brown Kluttz, whom he married Sept. 11, 1949; and four children, Linda Kluttz Criminger of Cornelius, James Robert Kluttz and wife Anne of Louisville, Ky., Mark Alan Kluttz and wife Kathy of Fripp Island, S.C., and Mary Ann Holliday and husband Rik of Southlake, Texas. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Kirsten Elizabeth and Morgan Marie Holliday of Southlake Texas; one brother, Harold Kluttz and wife Ruth Kluttz of Jefferson; and one sister, Donna Lee Jarrett and husband Jim Jarrett of Newton.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Lynn Kluttz.

Visitation and Service: Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Summersett Funeral Home in Salisbury with a graveside service following at Rowan Memorial Park, Highway 601 North, Salisbury presided by Pastor Outten. Masonic honors will be given by the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge.
