Mr. Elsie Edgar "Ed" Wooten, 80, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday morning, July 19, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center. Ed was born March 3, 1923, in Forsyth County to Elsie Edgar Wooten Sr. and Delillian Soots Wooten. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He worked as a shipping agent for Turner White Casket Co. and retired from AMP Corp., now TYCO. Ed was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mary Anna Brewer Wooten; two daughters, Trimella Chaney and her husband, Neville, of Blowing Rock and Rebecca Ann Brown and her husband, Eddie, of Winston-Salem; a son, Edgar Lee Wooten and his wife, Barbara, of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren, Nathan and Jacob Chaney, Teresa Owen, Lisa, Andrea and Lee Wooten and Edwin H. Brown IV; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pauline Jarvis and Edna Lark. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dana Wooten and the Rev. Marcus Portis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to The American Heart Association, 202 CentrePort Drive, Greensboro, NC 27409 or Bethel United Methodist Church, 2350 Bethel Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
