JAMES ALLEN COBB

James Allen Cobb, age 72, of Jamestown, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Signature HealthCARE of Fentress County.

Mr. Cobb was born in Fentress County on October 18, 1940 to the late Vonnie Pennycuff Cobb and Proctor Garfield Cobb. He was a member of Jamestown Church of Christ.

Mr. Cobb grew up in the Popular Cove Community and attended Campbell Elementary School and York Institute High School. In 1959 James entered the U.S. Army and served much of three yeas in Germany. While in Germany, he learned his trade of communication. James and his crew guarded the borders between Germany and Russia to make sure the German border was kept safe.

After returning to Tennessee, James married Peggy Ann Knight at the Church of Christ in Crossville on January 25, 1963. For 10+ years, James worked as a lineman for Twin Lakes Telephone Company. He then continued work in communications with Halsell Installation and Nortel Networks until retirement. These latter two positions gave James and his family in the summer, unforgettable opportunities to travel the Midwest and Southeast. He loved to garden while in Jamestown, however, he had a special fondness for vacationing in Florida whenever he could, especially after retirement.

Mr. Cobb is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Ann Knight Cobb; two sons, James Vance and Vincent Allen and wife Lisa; two grandchildren, Tyler Allen Cobb and Carson Orion Cobb; two brothers, Jack Cobb and wife Nana and Virgil Cobb and wife Loretta; two sisters, Jean Pinckley and daughter Caroline and Carol Owens and husband Donald with their son,  Donnie Gene and his family; special aunt, Kathleen Pennycuff and children from Warren Robbins, Georgia.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Mundy Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Duncan and Bro. Phil Adams officiating. Burial followed in Fentress Memorial Garden. Pallbearers included some of James' favorite workers in the telephone work, they were: Trent Carr, Steve Demps, Gerald Duncan, John Halsell, Dwayne Harness, Earl Hunt, Luster Posey and Phillip Ward. Honorary pallbearers included Earl Knight, John Knight, Scott Knight, Donald Owens, Donnie Gene Owens, Greg Qualls, Marc Upchurch, Mike Upchurch, Dayton Wright and Jack York.
