Dolores Michelle Mannis, 45, entered into rest on Friday, March 15, 2013 at San Diego, CA, due to a pedestrian vs. motor vehicle accident. "Missy" was born in Alvin, TX on July 18, 1967, the second of seven children, to Paul Julian and Maria Amalia (Galan) Simpson. She lived in the Houston, TX area until age 10, thereafter growing up in Anchoarage, AK, Idaho Falls, ID, Bloomingdale, OH, Greenfield, MA, Venezuela, Decatur, IL and Glendale, AZ.

Dolores was her mother's right hand, helping with household chores and younger siblings not only without complaint, but often without being asked. That was a blessing to her mother, as at times, her father had contract work out of state or moved before the rest of the family while Dolores and her siblings completed a school year. She had athletic talent and in her teen years, enjoyed playing sports on church and high school teams. In volleyball, she was a force with which to be reckoned and was offered a volleyball scholarship for college. She graduated from Peoria High School in AZ with the class of 1985.

In 1986 at age 19, Dolores joined her family in San Diego, CA. There she married Anthony J. Stubbs, with whom her first two children were born. They were later divorced. In 1999, she married James Alexander Mannis and they welcomed a son. Dolores enjoyed volunteering as team mom for her children's soccer and football teams and at her son's school. She loved dressing up with her children for Halloween.

Dolores earned an Associate's Degree from Miramar College in child development, enjoyed direct sales and cooking with Pampered Chef and became an executive director with PrePaid Legal. She was creative and enthusiastic in all she did. For many years, both in the San Carlos and Mira Mesa areas of San Diego, she worked with children as a Sunday school (Primary) teacher and as part of the presidency of the Primary Sunday school of her congregation. Dolores enjoyed card making, beading and scrapbooking, but especially, helping and encouraging others. She looked out for others, from her childhood through her adulthood, was not afraid of work and enjoyed serving others. Indeed, she was happiest when she was helping others. Dolores made friends easily since childhood, had beautiful freckles, an infectious laugh and a big, beautiful smile.

Preceded in death by her father, step-father, 1/2 sister and a niece, Dolores was survived by her husband and son, Jim and Ian Mannis; ex-husband, Tony Stubbs, daughters, Amanda Laine (fiance H.R. Dudley became Dolores' son-in-law the month following her death) and Melissa Ann Stubbs, of San Diego. She also left her mother, Amalia Galan Jones of Hemet; step-mom, Ronna Beard Simpson of Victorville; brothers Mike (Lori) of Oregon, Joe (Wendy) of California, Carlos (Emily) of South Korea and Pedro (Diana) Simpson of Virginia; and sisters Amalia (Eric) Jesperson and Amber (Kevin) Henderson, both of California, as well as 26 nieces and nephews (and counting).

Interment was on Thursday, March 28 at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California, followed by a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 11023 Pegasus Ave., San Diego, CA.
