Eleanor Fair Attwood, 89, of Bonita Springs, Florida died peacefully on February 28, 2006. She was born in Easton, Pennsylvania on November 8, 1916. Her father was a Presbyterian minister and her mother sang in the choir. She graduated from Rider College with a B.A. in English and accepted a job at IBM in Wilmington, Delaware where she excelled as an executive secretary. While there, she met Jim, her husband of 60 years. After World War II, they moved to Wayne, Michigan where they raised three boys. Fair and her husband were very active in the First Congregational Church of Wayne and many community groups.
After Jim's retirement from Unistrut Corporation, they moved to Bonita Springs, Florida where she was his loving caring companion. Her unrelenting optimism and personal sacrifice enabled Jim to battle the debilitating effects of Parkinson's disease for 22 years. Because of her efforts he experienced a quality of life that is rarely possible for someone with such an affliction.
Through the difficult times, Fair provided her husband and family with spiritual strength, courage and determination to overcome adversity.
Fair was a wonderful mother, a friend to many and an inspiration to those who knew her. She will be remembered as an extraordinary individual.
Fair is now reunited with her husband, Jim. She is survived by four grandchildren: Kira, John, Brandon and Mark: and her three sons, Joe (Judy) of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Mark (BJ) of Richmond, Virginia and Paul (Kandra) of Bonita Springs, Florida who consider themselves very fortunate to have had such a wonderful mother.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Friday, March 10, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church of Wayne. A luncheon for family and friends will immediately follow the service. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the First Congregational Church of Wayne or to the Free Clinic of Goochland 1800 Sandy Hook Rd., Suite 120, P.O. Box 898, Goochland, VA 23063.in her memory. Walter Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home (239) 992-4982 Family Owned Since 1978
