JOHN W. CAMPBELL DIES

End Came Sunday at His Home Southwest of Edina— Was Prominent Farmer and Stockman.

John W. Campbell, prominent farmer, cattle feeder and shipper, died at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the age of 68 at his home about seven miles southwest of Edina, following poor health since November. Funeral services were at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. S. E. Botsford of Edina at Mt. Carmel Church, near his home, and burial was in Linville cemetery in Edina.

Mr. Campbell, the son of Colin M. and Margaret L. Campbell, was born April 24, 1860, in a log house on the site in Edina where Harry Spencer now lives. At that time his father was sheriff and collector of Knox County, and he was a one-time state representative.

At about the age of 25 John Campbell went to Grainfield, Kan., where he engaged in the hardware business. While there be was elected to the Kansas state legislature, with which he served one term. From Grainfield he went to Denver, Colo., where he again conducted a hardware business until his return to Knox County, about 1893, to the farm where he lived until his death.

He married Elizabeth O'Brien of south of Edina Oct. 21, 1896, who survives him.

Mr. Campbell, who was a Mason and a member of the Methodist Church, South, was in the public light of Knox County some twenty years ago when he was the Democratic candidate for county collector, but was defeated.

Mr. Campbell, a sufferer from cancer, went to the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minn., in July, 1926, where he underwent an operation, from which he seemed to have recovered, taking an active part in affairs of his farm up to last summer. However, he became ill last November and was taken to a hospital in Kirksville, from which place he was sent home with little hope for recovery.

He is survived by a son, Colin W. of Brashear, who is a child of an earlier marriage of Mr. Campbell to Miss Kathryn Wilson of Edina, and five grandchildren. He had two sisters, both of whom preceded him in death. They were Callie, a Mrs. Ackerman, who died some years ago, and Mattie, Mrs. S. K. Fowler, who died in 1914.

Mrs. S. E. Botsford of Edina is a niece of Mr. Campbell and Mrs. W. T. Sharp of Edina is a grandniece.
