Elenore Frances Brinton
10-27-1923 ~ 3-28-2013

Elenore Frances Brinton passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28th after a short illness in Portland, Oregon. A longtime resident of Springfield, she was born at home in Yreka, California on October 27, 1923 to Henry and Irene Mathews. She was the older sister to three brothers and had a happy childhood in spite of numerous moves around northern and central California with her family. She graduated from Fresno High School in 1941 and studied bookkeeping at Fresno State College. She worked at Hamilton Airfield during World War II where she met her first husband, Bill Martin. They had three sons before divorcing in 1947. She met Joe Brinton in 1957. They married in 1961 and had one son. They moved to Springfield, Oregon in 1963 and she lived there until failing health necessitated a move to Portland one month ago to be closer to family.

Elenore worked for various firms around Eugene as a bookkeeper until retirement. She then started volunteering at McKenzie-Willamette hospital. She and Joe both volunteered there for numerous years. After being a member at St. Alice Catholic Church, she moved to Bethel Assembly for a few years, then to Springfield Faith Center. Her faith was central to her life.

She is survived by her three brothers and their wives: Charlie and Ellie Mathews, Sacramento, CA; Ted and Sally Mathews, Bakersfield, CA; and Jim and Janet Mathews, Mt. Shasta, CA; two sons and daughters-in-law: William (Bud) and Ruth Martin, Oxley, Australia and Ken and Dale Brinton, Portland, Oregon; three grandchildren: Heather Martin Morris and her husband Justin, Melbourne, Australia; and Joseph and Emily Brinton, Portland, Oregon; Two great-granddaughters, Scarlet and Abigail Morris, Melbourne, Australia and many cherished friends in the Eugene/Springfield area. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and two sons: Brice Henry Martin and Richard Dean [Douglas] Martin.

She will be interred at Willamette National Cemetery with her husband Joe. A memorial service is planned at Springfield Faith Center later in the spring when her family from Australia can attend.
