CONCORD - Mrs. Sarah Alice Hooker Bishop, 80, of 542 Camrose Circle N.E., passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at CMC NorthEast. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Pittman and the Rev. Tom Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Wilkinson Funeral Home and will be at the home the remaining time. The burial will be private. Mrs. Bishop was born Aug. 29, 1928, in Greenville, S.C., to the late Clyde B. and Alice Mack Hooker. She was preceded in death by her only brother, Benjamin Hooker. Educated at Anderson College in Anderson, S.C., Mrs. Bishop was a homemaker and worked for American Red Cross and United Way of Cabarrus County. She faithfully attended First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was known by many as the best cook around and she loved needlework and sewing. Mrs. Bishop taught many young mothers to smock and sew. Mrs. Bishop is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, Elbert Earl Bishop; three children, Stephen Earl Bishop and wife, Nadia, Thomas Lynn Bishop and wife, Karen, and Alice B. Moody and husband, Jeff; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild and two step-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 200 Branchview Drive S.E., Concord, NC 28025.
