Dudley Atkins changed his name to Dudley Atkins Tyng, 16 January 1790. He stated, in a petition to the court, "that Mrs. Sarah Winslow, of Tyngsborough, in the county of Middlesex, being a descendant from the same [that is, Tyng] family, and having no children, has devised to him a considerable part of her estate, and has requested him to take the surname Tyng, and therefore praying the interposition of this court for that purpose."
