Walter M. Turner came to TX in 1854. In 1864, he enlisted in Payne's Company 32th Regiment serving mostly in LA and southern TX. His first engagement was Mansfield, next Pleasant Hill. He was with Banks raid to Yellow Bayou. Next he went to Alexandria where he became ill and was put in the hospital at Washington, after which he was discharged.

Walter M. Turner was the son of William B. Turner and Jane Martin Turner of Spartanburg, SC.
