Irene Elizabeth Berens, 89, Quinter, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Gove County Medical Center, Quinter. She was born June 5, 1918, in Walker to John and Anna (Kisner) Mermis.

She married Victor Berens on May 3, 1949, in Walker. She was a housekeeper at Gove County Medical Center, Quinter.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons, Wayne Berens, Quinter, and Leon Berens, St. Mary's; two daughters, LeAnn Keener, Rush Center, and Eileen Roberts, Hays; two brothers, Robert Mermis, Salina, and John Mermis, Saratoga, Calif.; three sisters, Celesta Vonfeldt, Albert, Remigia Quint, Westminster, Colo., and Joan VonFeldt, Victoria; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park; burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter. A vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gove County Medical Center or Gove County Long Term Care in care if the funeral home.
