White Pigeon- Dorothy C. Hartman, 97, of White Pigeon, Mich., went to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at her daughter's home in Vicksburg, Mich.
She was born May 4, 1907, in White Pigeon, a daughter of Frank E. and Edna C. (Grimes) Bellaire, and resided in White Pigeon most of her life. She also lived in Kalamazoo and Bronson, Mich., and Scott, Ind.
On Aug. 29, 1980, she married Carl E. Hartman in LaGrange, Ind.
She worked for Rose Reed Bookstore in White Pigeon and Howe Military School, sold cosmetics for the House of Stuart and was a seamstress. She was a member of the White Pigeon Church of Christ and the St. Joseph County Historical Society, and she did research on Rural Schools. Dorothy enjoyed crafts, oil painting, traveling, people, and most of all she loved her family and friends.
Surviving are: two daughters, Geraldine "Gerri" and Douglas Hendricks of Klinger Lake and Marilyn and Edward Pagels of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Ted and Cheri Hendricks of Bridgman an dJulie and Perry Gipson of Marshall; three great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a sister Frances Yoder of Las Vegas, Nev.' and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her special friend, "Smoky the Cat". She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon, where services are at 11 a.m. (Mich. time) Thursday. The Rev. Barry Edds, pastor of the White Pigeon Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in the White Pigeon Township Cemetery
