SHOFFLER, CAPTAIN DONALD A., 74 - of Erma, a life long area resident, passed peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2003.
Donald was a lifelong commercial fisherman who was instrumental in developing the surf clamming industry on the East Coast.
He owned and operated numerous boats including the HMS Bounty, Madison III, Fred II, Harold Snow, and Evelyn K.
Donald was an avid collector and historian of nautical artifacts and the fishing industry from Wildwood's early years.
He is predeased by his son, the late Donald Shoffler. He is survived by his wife Doris (nee Hinke), three sons, William and wife, Mary (Vey), of Wildwood, Timothy Sr. and wife Ramona (Sheets) of Erma, Tod and wife Kristin (Harris) of West Cape May, Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Cold Spring Presbyterian Cemetery. Friends may call at the service or the Lobster House Restaurant beginning at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Animal Outreach of Cape May, P.O. Box 102, Cape May Point, NJ. 08212.
