TRAVERSE CITY - Bessie M. Anderson, 107, of Traverse City and formerly of San Francisco, California, died Saturday at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City.

Born Nov. 10, 1891, in Aldrich, Missouri, she was the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Mae (Foxworthy) Churchman.

After her children had grown, Bessie had been a housemother at the women's dormitory at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and at a Lutheran home for children in Detroit. She loved people, especially children, and was a generous and caring neighbor. Bessie also enjoyed creative arts, music, painting, books and, most of all, her family and nature.

Survivors include a daughter, Arlene (Dr. Douglas) Frantz of Traverse City; a son, Linville (Kathleen) Anderson of Topeka, Kan.; a sister, Elaine (Virgil) Curtis of Hastings, Iowa; two brothers, Arthur (Dorothy) Churchman of Malvern, Iowa, and Ernest Churchman of Weslaco, Texas; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Granville L. Anderson who died in 1928, a son, a daughter, three sisters, a brother and a granddaughter.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Farragut, Fremont County, Iowa.
