Henry John Heft, son of the married couple, John Henry and Augusta (Meier) Heft, was born on August 28, 1874 in Michigan. He grew up in Monguagon and Ecorse, Michigan with his siblings, Adolph Edward, Paul Peter, Rudolph Henry, Emma Marie, William John, Carolina Tracie and Carl Frederich.

He married Martha Anne Schonschack on June 5, 1901 in her parents home "Spruces Roost" on Ann Arbor Road in Plymouth Township (house torn down in 2004). Their first home was 76 Forest Street in Wyandotte, Michigan where their only child, Lillian Teresa, who was born on January 8, 1903, spent her youth. Later they built a large duplex house at 62 Forest Street in Wyandotte, Michigan.

Henry John retired with no pension after 26 years as a Packer for Michigan Alkali Company in Wyandotte, Michigan.

After a long illness of heart disease, Henry died at his home on February 11, 1933. He was only 59 years old. He is buried in Trenton, Wayne, Michigan in Bloomdale Cemetery.
