Jean K. Bastress, 92, of Williamsport, died Monday, July 2, 2012, at the Williamsport Hospital. Born Oct. 13, 1919, in Clearfield, she was a daughter of Harry W. and Edna (Kline) Kelly. She married Robert G. Bastress and celebrated 71 years together on June 14. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Leon Kelly. She was the first secretary at the former Four Mile Elementary School and retired from there. She also worked as a proofreader for the Gazette Bulletin and at Yoas doing mechanical drawing layouts. Jean was a member of the Northway Presbyterian Church and the Barefoot Bay Quilters. She enjoyed reading, quilting, camping, painting, and caring for her family. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Rebecca S. (Norman) Underwood, of Bloomfield, N.Y.; three sons, Robert G. Bastress, Jr., of Alameda, Calif., Barry K. "B.K." (Robin) Bastress, and Brian S. Bastress, both of Spring Mills; seven grandchildren, Robert (Stacey) Bastress, Amy (Thomas) Green, Cortney Underwood, Lindsay Underwood, Heather Splettstoesser, Madison Bastress, and Samantha Bastress; five great grandchildren, Danica, Robert, Ellis, Kaitlyn, and Lauren; and a sister, Nancy J. Thomas of Warminster. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2012, at Northway Presbyterian Church, 1520 Northway Rd., Williamsport. Burial will be held in Green Lawn Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northway Presbyterian Church, 1520 Northway Rd., Williamsport, PA 17701. Arrangements entrusted to Knight-Confer Funeral Home.
