ONE YOUTH IS KILLED BY TRAIN ANOTHER LOSES HIS LEGS
Injury Likely To Kill Second Track Victim
Young Men are Hit While at Rest on Rails Along Cabin Creek Road
BOTH ARE BROUGHT TO CITY
May Have Fallen to Sleep as They Had Set Out to Walk Several Miles
Velmer E. Gray, 17 years old, was killed, and Velmer Bennett, 22 years old, suffered the loss of his legs cut off when they were struck by a train near Dawes on Cabin Creek this morning about 3:30 o'clock. The boys were not found until about 4 o'clock. A special train brought the body of the Gray boy, and young Bennett to Charleston this morning about 10:30 o'clock.

Bennett is in the Charleston General Hospital. His condition is considered serious, and his injuries may prove fatal. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Bennett, of Coal Fork, are at his bedside.

The boys were on their way to Coal Fork when the accident occurred. They had been at Cannelton all day yesterday to see about getting jobs with the coal company there. They had taken a car to Cabin Creek junction last night, and were walking to Coal Fork which is about eight miles away. They sat down on the railroad tracks to rest, and it is not known whether they fell asleep, or if they did not hear the train coming in time to get off the tracks. The train was thought to be one bringing coal out of Cane Fork.

Velmer Gray was the son of John Gray, of Chillicothe, O., and had been living at the Bennett home at Coal Fork for about four months. His body will be taken to Chillicothe tonight.
