Son of Seaborn Marion Hilley and Nancy Emma Groover. Married Mary Ella May on January 2, 1896 at Commanche County, Texas. "Poppa" and "Mama" Hilley were the parents of Ethel Elma (Hodge), Elbert Monroe, Melvin Henry, Herbert Hugh, James Bryan(t), Ira Lee, and Willie Mae Hilley.

I have found many sources that indicate that William's middle name might have been Merlin or Melvin. That issue was laid to rest when I came across his World War I draft Registration. It clearly states that his middle name was Milton ... and he even signed the document as such! I finally put the issue to rest!

The Comanche Chief and Pioneer Exponent, Comanche, Texas, 16 May 1913 Coperas Prairie and Gap News: Dr. HILLEY attended the Medical Association at San Antonio this week.

Stag Creek Cemetery is in Comanche County, Texas located 15 miles south of Rising Star on FM1477. Turn right toward Sidney and go 1/4 mile the cemetery is on the left. There is a church and an arbor located within the cemetery (254-842-5243).

In my research, I spoke with a wonderful older lady at Stag Creek Cemetery for about 15 minutes. She told me that she and her friends were just talking about how many babies Doc Hilley (my great grandfather) had "borned" in Sidney! Since it has been 70 years since Grandpa Hilley passed away, it was very heart-warming to find this woman who was just recently talking about Doc Hilley with her friends.

Anyhow, she said you take Highway 36 out of Comanche like you are heading toward Abilene and go for about 12 miles. Turn left on Farm to Market road 1477 (FM 1477) and proceed ¼ of a mile. The old graves are in the north part of the cemetery. She says that the Comanche Library has a wonderful genealogy section and there are tons of documents at the Court House.
