Civil War Union Army officer. He was born George W. Honeycomb, son of Thomas and Celia Peirson Honeycomb. His name was later changed by an act of the legislature. His occupation was recorded as blacksmith and machinist. He was an officer in the Massachusetts 5th Militia Regiment that entered the federal army as the 5th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He served as the regiment's colonel and commanding officer throughout the war, and was engaged in actions in and around New Berne, S.C., and in defense of Washington. After the war he was appointed brigadier general of Massachusetts state militia.
