Ross Leo Oviatt, 70, of Ammon, passed away April 10, 2013, at his home of cancer. He was under the care of his family and Hearts for Hospice.

Ross was born April 27, 1942, in Claresholm, Alberta, Canada, to Clifford Leo Oviatt and Marjorie Leona Jones Oviatt. He grew up and attended public schools in Canada. He received his schooling as a Court Reporter.

On August 15, 1964, he married Martha Ann "Marty" Smith in Corpus Christi, Texas. Their marriage was solemnized three days later, August 18, 1964, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Shelley, Idaho, where they raised their three children, Lance, Julie, and Jared. In 1972 Ross went to work as a Court Reporter for the State of Idaho at the Bonneville County Courthouse.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ross served faithfully in various and many capacities over the years. His recent service included the Mission Employment Center, where he served with Marty, and in the Special Needs Adult Primary Program.

Ross served on the School Board of the Shelley School District. He was instrumental in establishing licensing for Court Reports in the State of Idaho and served on the Board of Court Reporters for many years. He also held the office of President for that Board from ____ to ____. A devoted husband and father, Ross loved family history, reading, traveling, and being with his family.

Ross is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marty Oviatt of Ammon,
Son, Lance (Charla) Oviatt of Afton, WY,
Daughter, Julie (Marty) Gurr of Laguna Niguel, CA;
Son, Jared (Jenna) Oviatt of Millfield, OH;
Three brothers, Mark, Ira, and Paul, and
three sisters, Ona, Jenni, and Maggie.
9 Grandchildren: John, Wendell, Matthew, Laura, Gwen, Camille, Russell, Shelby, and Zoe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Thomas.


Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at the Ammon LDS 21st Ward, with Bishop Jeff Jones officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
