DR. MASTERSON TAKEN BY DEATH
Funeral Services Will Be Conducted on Friday
Dr. John Hilliard Masterson, aged 80, prominent Leighton physician for half a century, passed away this morning at 8:15 o'clock at Coffee Memorial hospital, following illness of but a few day.
Dr. Masterson had been in declining health for the past 10 years, and was in virtual retirement, although attending a few patients. Monday, he suffered a fall at his home and was removed to the hospital, where shock of a fractured hip and the infirmities of age, were contributing causes to his death.
Born in Lawrence county Oct. 15, 1859, deceased was educated at a medical school in Louisville, and was graduated in medicine at Tulane. He took up hs practice in Colbert county, and was known widely for his charitable acts, during the 50 years he remained active. He was a member of the Methodist church, and had a host of friends, who learned with deepest regret of his passing.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alma Masterson; a daughter, Mrs. L.T. Roach, of Nashville, three sons, Earl Masterson of Leighton; Byron Masterson, of Miami, and Aaron Masterson, of Florence; a sister, Mrs. J.P. Blackwell, of Sheffield, and a brother, T.C. Masterson, of Clyde, Tex.
Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the First Methodist church in Leighton, conducted by Rev. M.R. Heflin, the pastor. Interment will follow in Oakwood cemetery, Tuscumbia, Brown-Service directing.
Active pallbearers will be: Dr. R. T. Holt, E.P. King, Fred Marthaler, Ben Harris, L.T. Upton and Peter Barelift.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Ruby Brown, J.E. Smith, Bruce King, Fred McCormack, J.C. Fennel, Ira Puller, G.A. Hovater, Cliff King, Dr. W.B. McCollum, Dr. H.E. Whitlock, Dr. A.A. Jackson, Dr. L.T. Young, Dr. S.S. Roberts, Dr. H.M. Simpson, Richard Preuitt, and Jim Davis.
