Charles Stokes was a coal miner and traveled around Western Pennsylvania with Peter Warren Dixon to various mines as friends. Subsequently, when Charles died from internal injuries caused from an incident at work, he was buried in his friend Peter's family plot.


Charles was married to Agnes Phillips on August 7, 1915 in Seanor, Paint Township, Somerset County, PA. After his death, she married Charles' friend Peter and became his second wife.
