TRACTOR-TRUCK CRASH FATAL TO AREA MAN
A rural Winnebago man died this morning from injuries he sustained Monday afternoon when the farm tractor he was driving was struck by a pickup truck.

Raymond Douglas, 55, RR2, Winnebago, died at Rockford Memorial Hospital about 8 a.m. from head injuries according to Evelyn Zawlocki, Winnebago County deputy coroner.

State police said Douglas was heading east on U.S. 20 near Keith Road, pulling a wagon load of hay.

Donald J. Zloch, 30, Hodgkins, told police he looked in his rearview mirror and when he looked back to the road, he saw the tractor in front of him and could not slow down in time to avoid a collision.

Douglas sustained a broken back and his left foot was severed as well as sustaining head injuries, police said.

Zloch was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
