Bake, Frank Louis 69 Feb. 08, 1944 April 01, 2013 Frank Louis Bake, 69, passed away on April 1, 2013. Frank was born in Oakland, Calif. on Feb. 8, 1944, to Volcott and Helen Bake. After spending five years in Nebraska and San Jose, Calif., his family settled in SE Portland, where he lived the rest of his life. Frank graduated from Cleveland H.S. in 1962, where he excelled in both academics and athletics. While playing basketball and baseball, he gained the nickname "Snake Bake", and the legend began. It followed Frank to Linfield College, where he again excelled in both academics and sports. He pitched for the 1966 National Championship baseball team, which was inducted into the Linfield and Oregon Sports Hall of Fames. After graduation, Frank worked as an insurance underwriter. He then joined the family business, Columbia Door Sales and worked there for 35 years. He owned and operated the business from 1988 until 2004, and continued in the garage door industry until his death. Frank was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting ducks and pheasants, but his true passion was fishing. He was most content on the river with one of his black labs and a fishing buddy, telling stories and trying to hook a salmon or walleye. Frank was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He had a dry wit and great sense of humor, as well as a heart of gold. He was generous, loyal and a truly great son, brother and friend. Frank is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Bob Sullivan; a nephew, Mike Sullivan; and a great-niece, Amanda Ricker. Frank will be lovingly remembered and missed by family and friends and by all those who were lucky enough to have known him.
