Allene H. (McKinnon) Irvin, of Everett, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, April 13, 2013 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill at the age of 81.

Allene was born on February 8, 1932 in Boston, one of eight children of the late Lawrence J. McKinnon and Grace (Abbott) McKinnon. As a young girl, she lived in Charlestown, Malden and Wilmington where she attended high school. She married Joseph F. Irvin in 1947 and they settled in Malden to raise a family.

Mrs Irvin was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the age of 9. Her perseverance in proving doctors wrong about everything concerning her illness was both frustrating and inspiring. That she lived a quality life for 81 years is is a tribute to her determination.

Allene's interests were simple: she loved her family and children. She worked as a Nurse's Aide at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. After moving to Everett, she volunteered at Whidden Memorial Hospital as a greeter and switchboard operator.

She was predeceased by her daughters Linda and Marilyn Irvin and sisters Barbara Lawson, Dorothy Felony, and Elizabeth Gardner.

Graveside Service at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
