The inscription reads: 'Also of Montague H.B. Raby, Captain, Royal Artillery. Eldest son of Rear Admiral Raby (q.v.). Born Nov. 1st. 1865, died Sept. 21st. 1897. "Father in thy gracious keeping, leave we now thy servant sleeping."' That is a line written by the Reverend John Ellerton (1826-1893), who is buried in Torquay in Devon.
