Joseph Hilton "Joe" Mockbee was born on July 4, 1892 in Hackberry, Tennessee, the son of Robert Charles Mockbee and Emma (Britt) Mockbee. {It is noted that, his cemetery marker has his birth year as 1892, but on his September 1953 Delayed Certificate of Birth it's 1891, and his middle name there is given as Hilton, while his obituary has his middle name as Helton.}
He was married 1st about 1902 to Sarah "Ella" Rye (1889–1974), and they were in the 1920 census of Montgomery County, Tennessee with daughters Emma N Mockbee age 6 and Joe A Mockbee age 3.
Living in Birmingham, Alabama, Joe was 73 years old and married when he died at home on July 30, 1965. After his death, his body was returned to Cunningham, Tennessee to the home of his brother-in-law Sidney Baggett.
Survivors included his widow Ella in Birmingham, daughter Mrs Jo Ann King of Urbana, Illinois, son Alvin Mockbee in Jacksonville, Florida, brother Epps Mockbee in Cunningham, sisters Mrs Gaither Hembree and Mrs Lucille Phillips of Cunningham, his stepmother Mrs Susie Haneline of Cunningham and three grandchildren.
Graveside Services were held on August 2nd in Baggett Chapel Cemetery in Cunningham, Montgomery County, Tennessee.
