Rev Eli, son of Rinnah Cooley, born in Sunderland, Mass. He pursued his studies at the Academy at Hartford, CT and The College Of New Jersey (Princeton Univ), class 1806. Eli studied Theology with the Rev Samuel Stanhope Smith, and was licensed to preach at the New Brunswick Presbyterian Church, October 3rd 1809. He went to Cherry Valley, Otsego, NY; was ordained and installed to a church there, and remained for 10 years. Eli returned to NJ, for 3 years was located at Mattewan, and April 10th 1823, became the pastor of the First Church of Trenton, now Ewing, remaining until July 19th 1857, for a period of 34 years. His 1st wife was Hannah Scudder Cooley, they married Oct 15 1807 in New Jersey, they moved to Cherry Valley, New York. Hannah died while living in Cherry Valley, she is laid to rest in Cherry Valley Cemetery, Otsego, NY. His 2nd wife Catherine B Henderson Cooley, they married Sept 3rd 1818 in Monmouth, New Jersey, she died while on a VISIT to Springfield, Illinois and is laid to rest in Oak Ridge Cemetery Springfield, Ill. His 3rd wife was Amy Reading they married May 2nd 1855 in Ewing, New Jersey. Amy and Rev. Eli are laid to rest in this cemetery in front of the Tribute Monument ...............The woman at this church, erected a Tribute Monument Memorial for Hannah, Catherine, Amy, and Rev.
