Elmer Alvin McConnell 1930 - 2011 Wellsville

Elmer Alvin McConnell, age 81 of Wellsville, KS, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Wellsville Retirement Center. Funeral services will be 10AM, Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Wilson's Funeral Home in Wellsville. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-7:30, also at Wilson's. Interment will follow services in the Wellsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsville United Methodist Church in care of Wilson's, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.
Elmer Alvin McConnell was born January 29, 1930 in Wellsville, KS the son of Gilbert Elmer and Maribell Theodora (Royer) McConnell. He grew up in Wellsville and graduated from WHS in 1948. Elmer joined the United States Army in 1951, serving his country during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953. On September 19, 1954, Elmer married Doris Anderson at the First United Methodist Church of Ottawa. They were married 57 years before his passing. She survives at the home. Elmer and his family have owned and operated McConnell Machinery in Ottawa since 1936 when his father started the business. He had been in Wellsville his entire life and the farm equipment dealership had been his life's work. Elmer was a member of the Wellsville United Methodist Church, Ottawa Chamber of Commerce, the Wellsville American Legion, and the Southwest Association of Farm Equipment Dealers for 50 years. He loved old cars and tractors and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Doris McConnell of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Terry Moyer of Wellsville; daughter and son-in-law, Dee Dee and Pete Erlacher of Wellsville; son and daughter-in-law, Daren and Charlene McConnell of Shawnee; a sister, Eileene Finch of Lenexa, KS; 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 4 nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Raymond and a nephew.
