William "Bill" Joseph Armbruster, a retired jeweler, died Friday at Touro Infirmary. He was 76. Mr. Armbruster was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 20 years. He graduated from Redemptorist High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific areas. He was president of Armbruster Jewelers from 1973 to 1994. He was a certified gemologist and was a member of The Jewelers' Security Alliance, The Jewelers Board of Trade and The Better Business Bureau of the Greater New Orleans Area. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for 43 years. He was Grand Knight of Redemptorist Council No. 3330 where he worked for many years with the Squires, Edward D. O'Leary Circle No. 1710. He was also treasurer of the Father Francis Xavier Seelos Knights of Columbus Council No. 2878. Survivors include his wife, Catherine Margaret "Kay" Armbruster; three brothers, Bernard C. Armbruster of Slidell, Robert J. Armbruster Sr. of Metairie and Otto H. Armbruster Jr.; and two sisters, Anna Louise LaRocca of Chalmette and Claire Rose Wetta. A memorial service will be held Monday at 12:30 p.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Metairie Mausoleum.
