This is to a certain someone
who has been so good to me
who, through all the years has
sacrificed many a luxury
For little things for me I know
without them I could easily go.
Who cleaned us up when we were dirty
Scrubbed our faces till they'd shine.
Who heard our coughs far in the night
and rubbed our chest with turpentine
or stopped an aching tooth or ear
no one else but Mother Dear.
It was she who watched and cared
when we had our little ills
never failed to be right there
To feed us Caster-oil and fills
oh, we know who it was alright
That waited on us from morn till night.
~Poem written by Edna L. Lutze (Mother's Day 1940)
