Gladyce Martin Young , age 90, of Shawnee, OK died peacefully at the Shawnee Care Center.

Gladyce had been ill for the past year.

Gladyce was bom August 3, 1912 in Maud, OK. She was born to William Calvin Martin and Grace Bodkin Martin.

Gladyce attended school in Maud, OK. She worked as a bookkeeper for Modern Motors until she married Jack Young, also of Maud, on February 15, 1934.

For a number of years after their daughter Jacqueline and son Steve were born she was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, gardening and making ceramics while Jack operated the Cities Service Station in Maud. Gladyce was a very active member of the Maud Round Up Club and helped organize many fun Round Up Club parades and barbecue dinners.

Jack & Gladyce moved to Shawnee in 1961 where they operated Cities Service Oil Co. and later Vicker's Oil Co. They formed their own company, Young Oil Co. and Gladyce was once more a bookkeeper. In 1972 they moved to Oklahoma City where Jack worked for Hudson Oil Co.

They were both very active in their church, Baptist Temple. They belonged to The Joy Singers and the Temple Pillars Bible Study Group. They both participated in the monthly food distribution from Baptist Temple.

They returned to Shawnee in 1998 where Gladyce was one again a member of the North Rock Creek Home Extension Club.

Gladyce was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her mother Grace and father William as well as her sisters, Leta Davis, Opal Hilton and Maggie Thrailkill and her brother Curtis Martin.

She is survived by her daughter Jacqueline and her husband Kip Roberts, her son Steve and his companion Josianne Bozeman, grandchildren Scott Strozier and wife Donna of Burbank, CA, Michelle Strozier of Shawnee, Brett Young of Tulsa and J.C.

Young of Wellston, great grandchildren Nichole Rawls, Josh Rawls, Shelby Young and Tilson Young all of Shawnee. She is also survived by her very special nieces Jan and husband Charles Johnson, Anita Mae Lockwood and Sue Baucom and her nephews Monte Joe Thrailkill and wife Carolyn, Gary Thrailkill and wife Joan, John Sleeper and wife Agnes, Jack Sleeper and wife Tess and a sister-in-law Pauline Young Sleeper.

Services are Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at 2:00 PM at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Shawnee under the direction of Walker Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Shawnee or to Baptist Temple, Oklahoma City, OK.

All family and friends are invited to come by Jacqueline's house located at 2129 N.Beard for refreshments and fellowship following the service.
