TO ITS GRAVE

Funeral Services Held Sunday
For Brother of City's Police Chief

Six cousins of the late William Alden, well known retired farmer, officiated as casket bearers at his funeral Sunday afternoon at the Easalhopst [sic] chapel in Benton Harbor.

The deceased was a brother of Chief of Police Fred Alden of St. Joseph. Since selling his farm east of the city nearly two years ago he lived on Union street, Benton Harbor, retiring from farm life owing to ill health.

An unusually large number attended the rites. The flowers were beautiful and the songs sung by C. E. Lake effective. He sang "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross." The pianist was Mrs. Glen Alden. Rev. H. A. Blanning of the First Congregational church officiated.

Burial was in Crystal Springs cemetery, the casket being borne by George Olds, W. G. Smith, Louis Smith, Menzo, Loren and Oscar Snyder.

Driving here from Detroit to attend the rites, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Watkins, the latter a niece of the deceased, were uninjured when their car hit a truck and rolled over an embankment near Battle Creek. They continued on their journey here with Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Peters. Mr. Peters is a brother of Mrs. Watkins.
