Glenna Christeen (Kornegay) Wall, 82, of Memphis is survived by her loving daughter, Betty (Maude E.) Brown and son-in-law, Samuel C. Brown; two grandchildren; Mark Avery Crutchfield of Anchorage, Alaska and Dawn Elizabeth Ales of Sardis, Mississippi, two great-grandchildren, Connor L. Ales of Sardis, Mississippi and Samanatha Hill of Anchorage, Alaska. She is survuved by a brother, Rudolph E. Kornegay of Oxford, Florida and 5 nephews and 3 nieces. Her late husbands were Avery Adkins and Robert E. Wall, Sr. both of Memphis.Her late parents were Robert Sidney Thomas "Tom" and Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (East) Kornegay of Memphis, who both lived to be 91. Her late brothers and sisters were Marguerite Kornegay of McComb, Mississippi, Marjorie Kornegay of Sturgis, Mississippi, Juanita Bostick of Wichita, Kansas and Alton Kornegay of Jacksonville, Arkansas.
She was the youngest child born to the late Tom and Betty Kornegay on February 22, 1922 at home in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi near Sturgis. She graduated from Sturgis High School in 1940.She married the late Avery Adkins of Norma, Tennessee at Columbus, Mississippi on February 2, 1943 while working for Western Union. She retired from Sears,Roebuck and Company in 1978 with 27 years of service. She worked at Sears Crosstown and the Southland Mall Store #1216 as division manager. She died from Cancer on Monday, July 26,2004.
At the age of 16 she became a Christian and was baptized at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church of Sturgis, Mississippi. She was an active member in the following churches in Memphis. Trinity Baptist Church, McLean Baptist Church, LaBelle Haven Baptist Church and Whitten Memorial Baptist Church. Since 1966 at Whitten, she served as secretary for many years in Homemakers Class, Coordinator of Keenagers Group and was known to everyone as "Miss Glenna".
She traveled extensively to Europe,Mexico,Canada and all 50 of the Continental United States during her retirement years.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday,July 29,2004 at 2:00pm at Forest Hill Funeral Home East of Memphis. The burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery of Memphis. The visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 29,2004 at Forest Hill Funeral Home East of Memphis.
