A Mass of Christian Burial for the Rev. Charles J. Diemer, 86, founding pastor of St. Marcelline Church in Schaumburg, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Marcelline Church, 822 S. Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg. Cardinal Francis George will officiate.
He was at peace in Christ on Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in Melbourne, Fla. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove.
Fr. Diemer was ordained in April 1938. His appointments included Angel Guardian Orphanage (Chicago), St. Aloysius (Chicago), St. Mary (Riverdale), Sacred Heart (Chicago) and St. Nicholas (Evanston), before his assignment to St. Marcelline on March 1, 1966, where he served until his retirement on March 1, 1976. He had also served as a Navy chaplain during World War II. Fr. Diemer will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity.
He was the beloved son of the late Eugene and Clara Diemer; loving brother of Eugene Diemer of Melbourne, Fla., Robert Diemer of Elwood, Richard Diemer of Elwood, Sr. Margaret Diemer, SSSF, of Campbellsport, Wis., and the late Joseph, Walter and Gertrude Rank; and dear uncle of many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the church, with a liturgical wake service at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
