Venice Brewer Elmore, longtime resident of Rule, Texas, passed away Tuesday evening, April 16, 2013 at Integrity Transitional Hospital in Denton, Texas. Mrs. Elmore was 83. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Rule with Rev. Scott Hensley officiating. Interment will take place immediately following at Willow Cemetery in Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Friday evening, April 19 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home in Rule.

Venice Brewer was born October 20, 1929 in Merkel, Texas to Raymond and Lola Mae (Bland) Brewer. She married E.L. "Tick" Elmore in Haskell on December 21, 1945. Tick and Venice were married 66 years until Tick's death on February 21, 2012. Venice enjoyed sewing and crocheting and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church.

In addition to Tick, Venice is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Lola Mae Brewer; and 1 brother, Johnny Powell Brewer.

She is survived by her 2 daughters, Elaine Gomillion and husband Wade of Rule, and Paula Martin and husband Walter of Lake Dallas; son, Eddie Elmore of Leonard; grandchildren, Justin Holcomb and wife Alma of San Antonio, Nicole Spalding and husband Randy of Tuxedo, Texas, Venece Perepiczka and husband Chris of Anna, Texas, Stephanie Scruggs and husband Ken of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Elise Martin and fiancé Shane Bridges of San Augustine, Texas, Elizabeth Griffin and husband Wade of Fox, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Emma Iliff, Rylea and Colten Spalding, Addison Perepiczka, and Gavin and Gage Scruggs; brother, A.C. Brewer of Odessa, Texas; and sister, Brenda Summers of Dallas, Texas.
