Taken from Montpelier Examiner dated 7 Dec 1900 page 7
Montpelier people were pained to learn last Sunday that Jacob Jones one of the pioneers of this valley had succumbed to diabetes after a long illness. Mr. Jones had been bedfast for some time and while the attending physicians gave the family no hope of his recovery, his death brought sorrow to many homes.
Jacob Jones was born in Talybaut Breckon, Wales, on May 14th 1825, and was therefore in is 76th year when death came. Soon after his marriage he and wife came to America and in 1864 arrived in this valley where he has been almost continuously ever since. He early engaged in the cattle business and acquired a considerable fortune. Later he, in company with his son have been engaged in the mercantile business in this city.
Mr. Jones leaves a wife and four sons, Thomas, Frank, Jake and John, and five daughters. Mrs. C. Webster, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. T. L. Glenn, Mrs. D. C Oakley and Miss Daisy Jones, and a large number of other relatives and friends to mourn his death.
The funderal took place Tuesday from the L. D. S. meeting house, the deceased having long been a member of that church. A large concourse of friends followed the remains to their last resting place.
The Examiner, on behalf of the community extend to the sorrowing family and relatives, the sympathy of the people. While in recent years, owing to failing health, Mr. Jones had partially ceased taking an active part in business and other affairs of the city, yet he never lost interest in all that is related to this section , and his death removes a distant land-mark from our (not legible)lst.
May he rest in peace.
