Alpha Merle Phillips was born May 25, 1912 in Cooter, Missouri, what was then known as Peniscot County, She was the oldest daughter of John Lee and Linnie ( Coonich ) Cavashere. She married Kyle Phillips in Kennett, Missouri on October 13, 1931. Merle and Kyle traveled with a carnival for a short time for whom Kyle worked for as a wrestler. This was during the depression and people did what they had to do to make a living. Merle and Kyle worked at a ammunition plant during the first of the war years. In March 1943 they became parents of their first child, Sandra Kay and in December 1944, a second child was born, another daughter, Jennifer Lynn and the following yearin 1945 a son, Kenneth Edward was born. In August 1951, another daughter was born, Debra Elaine. Kyle and Merle owned and operated Phillips and Son Moving Business. The family moved from Bloomington to LeRoy in 1961. Surviving Merle are Sandra Kay Hadfield and Jennifer Lynn Fleming of Downs, Illinois; Kenneth Edward Phillips of Bloomington, and Debra Elaine Bays of LeRoy, Illinois. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren; Kathy and Randy Hadfield, Lyle and Lana Nunamaker, Lisa, Raymond and James ( Jamie ) Fleming, Kenneth and Kimberly Bays. She will be greatly missed and will always be greatly loved.
