Loren Christie Abbott, a loving husband, father and Papa and former Klamath Falls resident, passed away April 9, 2013, in Roseville, Calif., after living 77 wonderful, adventurous years.
Loren was born to Loren and Rachel Abbott in Eureka, Calif., on Dec. 31, 1935.
He graduated from Humboldt State University with a bachelor's degree in industrial arts. It was there that he met the love of his life, Shirley Samuelson. They married in 1957 and just recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.
Loren began his newspaper career at the Arcata Union at the young age of 10. He was in the newspaper business for more than 50 years. Loren was known for his skill, creativity and passion for helping businesses achieve their goals through advertising and promotion.
His career spanned many communities and newspapers. He worked for Hanford Centennial in Hanford, Calif., Herald Journal in Logan, Utah, Herald and News on two occasions - 1970 to '73 and 1989 to 1992 - in Klamath Falls, Ore., Sierra Sun in Truckee, Calif., Tahoe Daily Tribune in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., Greeley Tribune in Greeley, Colo., and Nevada Appeal in Carson City, Nev. He retired as Publisher of the Tahoe Daily Tribune.
In addition to a rewarding newspaper career, Loren was a volunteer fireman and volunteer and supporter of the Rotary Club, Elks Lodge and many Chamber of Commerce and business associations. He was actively involved in the community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club and other organizations.
Loren is survived by his wife Shirley; his son Loren Abbott Jr. and wife Didier of Lincoln, Calif.; his daughter Lori Brown and husband Robert of Edwards, Colo.; his daughter Lisa Smoot and husband Mike of Roseville; and his daughter Leslie Coe and husband Dan of Rocklin, Calif. He is also survived by his grandchildren Brandon Abbott, Britney, Cameron and Cody Brown, and Jacob and Aaron Smoot.
He was known for his big heart and love for people. He loved tinkering around his shop and woodworking. He also loved getting out and playing golf with friends and family.
